Classic 10 days Tour

 

Day 1 – Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul, a city steeped in history! You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours, free to relax or explore this amazing city.

Day 2 – Istanbul Old City

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Istanbul – once known as the former imperial capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. We visit the Blue Mosque, the Haghia Sophia, soak in the Sultan’s opulence at Topkapi Palace and explore the Hippodrome.

Day 3 – Gallipoli Battlefields

This morning we depart Istanbul for the Gallipoli peninsula. Here you will be moved as we visit the WWI battlefields including the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair Memorials, ANZAC Cove, Johnston’s Jolly, The Nek, trenches and tunnels.

Day 4 – Troy, Acropolis of Pergamum

After breakfast, we depart for Troy, made famous in Homer’s Iliad and because of its Trojan Horse.  Next stop is Pergamum where we will visit the impressive Acropolis, and the temples and Library  that made Pergamum a respected political and cultural centre in Ancient Times. We then head down the coast to Kusadasi.

Day 5 – Ephesus, Kusadasi

Transport yourself back to life in ancient times today as you stroll the stroll the streets of Ephesus and visit the Temple of Artemis. Try out your singing skills in the well preserved theatre  before we continue on to the former Greek village of Sirince, famous for its fruit wines. This afternoon we visit a carpet weaving centre to learn about the dying art of Turkish carpet weaving – how they are made, and the factors that determine their value.

Day 6 –  Pamukkale, Hierapolis

This morning we will enjoy a display of locally handcrafted leather goods before we commence our drive to Pamukkale – home of the famous white travertines (calcium pools) and the ruins of the ancient Roman spa city of Hierapolis.  Here you will be able to swim over Roman columns in the Cleopatra Antique Pool (entrance extra) and take a dip in the travertine pools which contain thermal water, believed since ancient times to have therapeutic powers.

Day 7 – Silk Road, Konya

This morning we commence our drive along the ancient Silk Road to Cappadocia, stopping to visit the Mevlana Museum in Konya and  Sultanhani Caravansary, on the way.  Option to attend a traditional Turkish folk dance show tonight – this is a great night, and an opportunity not to be missed.

Day 8 – Cappadocia, Goreme, Underground City

We spend today touring Cappadocia and surrounds.  Sights you will see include the Goreme open-air museum and one of the area’s underground cities. You will be amazed by the incredible landscape of this area so have your camera charged and ready to go!

 Day 9 – Ankara

After breakfast we depart for Turkey’s capital, Ankara, where we will visit Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of the Turkey’s founding father, Mustafa Ataturk.  We then head back to Istanbul.

Day 10 – Departure

Our tour finishes after breakfast, and we say goodbye to our new friends.  Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
